Jigsaw Search’s client is an organisation with a multi billion dollar turnover and fragmented structure. The organisation has recognised a need to approach spend management more strategically and change the current state of play in how the shared service operations can service the stakeholders more efficiently in terms of providing goods and services whilst optimising processes, data and cost.

The Role

The role requires the category management of projects across a total procurement spend of approximately $370m including indirect cost categories (IT related goods & services, facilities management, construction, travel, stationery, audio visual etc) and direct cost categories (major assets and research consumables such as laboratory supplies). The range of categories under review is unusually diverse, providing a dynamic and stimulating environment for the right personality type.

The major challenge of this position is to deliver cost savings and demand reduction strategies, contribute significant value-add to significant stakeholders, and develop business improvement strategies across a range of spend categories through the development and adoption of the appropriate strategic sourcing and vendor management processes for specific categories. 

Position Duties

  • Manage the end to end Procurement process, including sourcing, contract management and supplier management for identified categories.
  • Contribute to and develop revised Strategic Procurement processes across strategic sourcing, contract development and supplier management.
  • Utilise the designated contract management and supplier methodologies across all applicable categories.
  • Contribute to and develop revisions to the Transactional Purchasing guidelines, processes and procedures across varied customer bases in the various Divisions.
  • Proactively seek out and undertake new sourcing projects, create effective market engagement strategies, evaluate proposals and recommend vendors.
  • Conduct vendor negotiations to achieve the most optimal outcome.
  • Implement supplier agreements which add value, reduce cost and minimise risk.
  • Support Strategic Sourcing Manager and Strategic Supplier Manager to articulate and deliver Benefits Realisation methods and reporting
  • Analyse and deliver monthly management reports to the Executive team and other key internal stakeholders covering savings delivered, non compliance, contract leakage, category spend data, volume analysis etc.

Main Accountabilities

  • Ensure contracts are managed with probity, timeliness and consistency within the process methodology adopted by the Procurement Department.
  • Maximise contract benefit across a range of categories.
  • Engage and communicate with key stakeholders to maximize cooperation, buy-in & support.
  • Manage suppliers & interact with staff in a professional & business-like manner and promote Procurement as a positive example of excellence, integrity, responsiveness & objectivity.
  • Effectively articulate and represent the procurement objectives and values both internally and externally.
  • Deliver high value savings in terms of cost reduction, demand reduction, risk mitigation and value creation across a range of spend categories by developing Procurement Strategies using leveraged volumes.

Skills & Experience Required

This role requires a well presented, articulate and confident tertiary qualified business professional with significant commercial and category management experience and knowledge.  At least five years procurement experience in varied environments with a minimum of four categories managed throughout the strategic procurement lifecycle is necessary.  The successful applicant will have experience managing strategic suppliers for value and risk mitigation as well as strong analytical expertise, with robust critical reasoning and creative thinking skills.  You will have advanced communication and interpersonal skills along with strong negotiation skills, with a clear emphasis on medium to short term gains.  Strong deal making and contract preparation skills are required along with strong stakeholder engagement and influencing skills in a non-mandated environment.  Importance is also on the ability to work in a non-portfolio environment, under a case management approach.
