Our client, a Global Investment Banking organisation, provides a wide range of services worldwide to a substantial and diversified client base that includes corporations, financial institutions, governments and high net worth individuals.
As the firm strives to build upon its successful performance in a rapidly changing and increasingly competitive and regulated market, it demands an ever-increasing level of sophistication, commerciality, flexibility and sustainability from its global infrastructure and support services departments.
The Role
A new opportunity following a global re-structure, the Procurement and Contract Management VP has team members in Hong Kong, Tokyo and India who serve all divisions of the organisation in Asia on key sourcing projects. The successful candidate will lead the team to drive commercial value, protect the firm from risk and ensure compliance to policy.
Position Duties
- Direct, co-ordinate, prioritise and manage the day to day activities of the Procurement and Contract Management team in Asia
- Managing the bid process through contract execution
- Draft and negotiate various Consulting, Construction, Commodity and Service Agreements
- Review general provisions to ensure conformance with legal and risk management requirements
- Create contract summaries and assist with contract interpretations
- Monitor vendor and consultant compliance with policies, procedures and contract terms
- Manage and structure the team to develop their careers
- Lead the team to develop procedures to measure and manage vendor performance. Assess effectiveness and competitiveness of the procurement process, highlighting issues and proposing solutions
- Develop strong working relationships with vendor managers in the region and global procurement colleagues in order to leverage best practice
- Actively participate in the Global Procurement Operating Committee to ensure Asia perspective and needs are addressed
- Drive implementation of global Procurement initiatives across the Asia region
- Identify opportunities to maximize the value derived from the firm’s vendor relationships
- Review contract administration processes and procedures to ensure efficiency with effective control
- Develop or refine contracts and procurement process to ensure adherence to the firm’s business principles, industry best practice, and professional standards
- Manage the relationship with internal and external legal counsel to optimise delivery of service, ensure appropriate forms of agreements are utilised, contractors conform with the terms and conditions
- Support the firm’s development of a global support centre for procurement and finance services in India
- Drive initiatives to reduce or contain risk, and/or create savings opportunities. This includes structuring commercial, cost and service models that incentivise vendors to meet the firm’s objectives
Skills & Experience Required
- Proven track record of leading, and developing, diverse and decentralised teams in Asia
- Minimum ten years experience in supply chain management, sourcing and procurement, vendor management legal and contracting or operational risk management
- Experience of successfully negotiating complex contracts in Asia, including incentivised service level agreements
- Excellent skills in managing projects involving many functions (Real Estate, IT, Finance, Legal, Regional Management)
- Strong sense of teamwork, experience of working in global teams, and ability to create partnerships at all levels within the organisation
- Proven interpersonal and communication skills with experience of building relationships in Asia (appropriate language skills would be an advantage)
- Professional and measured approach that has creditability within industry and with peers
- Impeccable attention to detail and excellent problem solving and analytical skills
- Strategic thinker with strong implementation ability
- Bachelors/Masters degree in a related field or relevant industry qualifications (e.g. ISM, CPM, CIPS etc.)
- Willingness to travel in Asia to advise teams and resolve issues wherever required
- Proficient with the suite of Microsoft Office software and other computer skills
