Metro Trains Melbourne (MTM) is the name of Melbourne's new metropolitan rail service.
Metro manages Melbourne’s metropolitan train network operating 150 six-carriage trains across 830 kilometres of track. The train fleet covers more than 30 million kilometres per year servicing more than 200 million customer journeys.
Based in the corporate headquarters in the heart of Melbourne’s CBD the procurement team has come along way since its creation 2 years, experiencing a high degree of stakeholder buy-in and an increase portfolio of spend. Metro have recruited a strong team of high performing procurement professionals and are looking to expand.
The Role
Support major projects from a procurement perspective by managing the contracting and tendering process for a wide range of goods and services.
Position Duties
- Lead tendering and contract negotiations whilst having responsibility for all reporting processes.
- Provide contract management assistance for major materials contracts for the supply of materials and equipment and co ordination of assets disposal.
- Establishment of Contracts and Forward Purchase Agreements for both long and short term requirements with appropriate commercial, pricing and legal controls.
- Assist in the development and implementation of procurement policies and procedures to ensure the business obtains value for money and facilitate compliance procurement policies and approval requirements.
- Maintain a contract register for all contracts, and status report on all tender activity.
- Continually investigate the market place and introduce contracts which assist in the development of the business, while addressing the clients’ needs.
- Provide leadership and guidance to management and staff and, where necessary participate, in the preparation and structuring of scopes of works and technical specifications for inclusion in contracts.
- Participate in and support Metro’s on-going Business Improvement processes.
Skills & Experience Required
- A strong understanding of contract management and contract approval processes
- Strong stakeholder engagement and influencing skills
- Strong negotiation skills and commercial acumen
- Experience in procurement, Sourcing, Tendering or Contract Management within a large organisation will be an advantage
- Exposure to engineering driven procurement environment
- 3+ years in a commercial role
