Strategic Sourcing Executive 

Description

Metro manages Melbourne’s metropolitan train network operating 150 six-carriage trains across 830 kilometres of track. The train fleet covers more than 30 million kilometres per year servicing more than 200 million customer journeys.

Based in the corporate headquarters in the heart of Melbourne’s CBD the procurement team has come along way since its creation 2 years, experiencing a high degree of stakeholder buy-in and an increase portfolio of spend. Metro have recruited a strong team of high performing procurement professionals and are looking to expand

The Role

This role is responsible for reviewing and applying sourcing strategies in the management of supply categories across the region. Key commodities managed include Project Services, Utilities, Plant & Labour Hire, Sleepers, Rolling Stock Maintenance, Cleaning Services, HR Services, Telecommunications, Station Maintenance, Signalling, Telecommunications, IT Services, Traction Motors, Rail, Overhead Wire/Cables, Ballast and Vehicle Fleet management.

Position Duties

  • Develop and implement sourcing strategies ensuring security and flexibility of supply, appropriate quality and service, managed total cost of ownership, sustainable competitive advantage, and the introduction of innovation.
  • Support sourcing strategies designed to meet business requirements, prepare and manage the sourcing process including identifying business requirements, financial analysis, the preparation of bid documentation (RFI, RFP, Tender Docs), respond to supplier queries and manage supplier conditioning.
  • Work with internal business partners to achieve a thorough understanding of business requirements, and the development of goods and services specifications.
  • Project manage a suite of sourcing projects to ensure all projects are planned, controlled, monitored and implemented; and that project results are consistent with established Procurement objectives and goals.
  • Lead projects and manage cross functional teams for the identification and introduction of innovative and cost effective procurement strategies and procedures.
  • Ensure cross-functional commitment to strategic sourcing process and programme within Metro Trains through communication, education and interaction with key stakeholders.

Skills & Experience Required

  • Demonstrated experience in strategic sourcing or category management for a large organisation with an advanced procurement function
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and influencing skills
  • Broad category knowledge ideally having sourced engineering services, capital, labour and subcontractors
  • Superior stakeholder engagement and influencing skills
  • Proven problem solving and analytical skills
  • Proven influencing and negotiation skills
  • Tertiary qualifications are essential
