Tatura Milk Industries Limited (TATURA) is a public unlisted company with shareholding held by supplying dairy farmers. The company was established in 1907 and is located at Tatura in regional Northern Victoria, Australia.
From humble beginnings in 1907 with less than 100 tonnes of butter manufactured in its first year of operation, TATURA has grown into a fully automated modern complex with the ability to produce a wide range of dairy products to exacting specifications.
Today TATURA is supplied by approximately 330 dairy farms and processes approximately 450 million litres of milk each year. TATURA is a single site manufacturing complex with access to fresh, quality milk from best practice dairy farms. The majority of supplying farms are located within a 30kms radius of the factory, making it cost effective and allowing for efficient transportation of the milk.
TATURA manufactures quality Australian dairy ingredients for the global market. Approximately 70,000 tonnes of manufactured products are produced per annum using state of the art technologies and systems.

In April 2007 Bega Cheese Limited acquired a 70% controlling interest in Tatura Milk.
Bega Cheese Limited is an Australian unlisted public company that produces and distributes dairy products. The company's products are distributed throughout Australia and exported to over 50 countries. Bega Cheese employs around 1,300 staff, and is headquartered in Bega, New South Wales.
Bega manufactures several different cheese products under the Bega brand name for both retail and the food service industry.
Brands include Tasty Sticks, Strong & Bitey Sticks, Super Slices, Super Slim, Real Cheese Snacks, Original Stringers, Bega Shapers, and Bega Junior.
The acquisition is a good fit for Bega Cheese with a number of synergies existing between the two companies. It provides Bega with access to an expanded product range such as cream cheese, milk powders, infant formula and neutraceuticals, which complements Bega's existing range of natural and processed cheddar cheese.
Tatura Milk has the appetite for strategic procurement and with investment from ‘Senior Management they will transform the function from tactical to strategic. The aim is to implement category management with a focus on critical categories such as ingredients and packaging as well as developing a number of new policies, processes and systems which support the function.
The function will be given strategic direction and leadership from experienced General Manager - Supply Chain and the talent recruited over the coming months.
